The Snowflake: A Water Cycle Story. Pre-built water cycle environment from Day 6. Bulletin board "Precipitation" and "Collection". Foldable paper, art supplies.
Procedure:
- Read The Snowflake: A Water Cycle Story. This time, emphasize the part on Precipitation. Use the rest of the book as a review. Again, reaffirm that the sun's energy is what causes this cycle to begin.
- Define precipitation, and illustrate what it means in the water cycle. Try and have students come up with a variety of precipitation examples. Have students take out their water cycle wheels and write in "Precipitation" in the correct spot.. Have a student tape "Precipitation" to the bulletin board.
- Repeat the above process for the idea of collection.
- Create a water cycle foldable. On a sheet of paper, draw a picture of the water cycle. (See photos below). Then use the "4 Door" template to create four tabs. On the outside of the tabs, have the students write the appropriate vocabulary. On the inside, a short description of the phase of the water cycle.
- Have students look at the water cycle environment. If there is no visible precipitation, tap on the plastic to make some condensation fall.. Have the students journal about any differences they observe, and what they think is going to happen.
