Objective:
-The student will examine the second stage of the water cycle.
-The students will inspect the changing environment of our class water cycle.

Materials:
The Snowflake: A Water Cycle Story. Pre-built water cycle environment from Day 6. Bulletin board "Condensation". Plastic cups, ice, warm tap water, cold tap water.
The Snowflake: A Water Cycle Story. Pre-built water cycle environment from Day 6. Bulletin board "Condensation". Plastic cups, ice, warm tap water, cold tap water.
Procedure:
- Read The Snowflake: A Water Cycle Story. This time, emphasize the part on Condensation. When you reach the evaporation stage, elicit what is happening from the students. Again, reaffirm that the sun's energy is what causes this cycle to begin.
- Define condensation, and illustrate what it means in the water cycle. Try and have students come up with everyday examples of condensation. Relate it back to the first day's conversation about clouds. Have students take out their water cycle wheels and write in "Condensation" next to the cutout in the clouds. Have a student tape "Condensation" to the bulletin board.
- Put kids in small groups. Hand each group two plastic cups, one with ice in it, one without. Give them a copy of the Condensation Activity sheet. Have them perform the experiment. When they are finished, have them paste the pictures the drew on the right side of their notebooks. On the left side, have them answer the question "What were the differences between the hot water cup and the cold water cup?"
- Have students look at the water cycle environment. Hopefully after two days there will be condensation on the plastic wrap.. Have the students journal about any differences they observe, and what they think is going to happen.
Differentiation:
- Students with limited motor abilities can observe the experiment and not pour the water.
